What is Baptism?

For Christ Followers, baptism is an opportunity to express our faith and identification with Jesus.

Baptism symbolizes that we have been united with Christ in His death (going under the water) and raised to a new life with Him (coming up out of the water). The washing of water symbolizes that we have been cleansed from our sins.

It is a picture of the core of our Christian faith: “...that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

A Note for Parents

For children in elementary school (ages 10 and up)

Parents, if you have a child in elementary school who would like to be baptized, we ask that you first read the document below. If after reading this you feel they are ready for baptism, you can sign them up for the next class.

If in talking with your child you sense they are ready to receive Jesus as their Savior, but you aren’t sure how to lead them in that, the resource below is designed to help you. Want additional support? Email baptism@austinridge.org.

The pastor will briefly introduce you and will ask you if you have placed your faith and trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You just say yes!

We will provide you with a shirt the morning of your baptism. Wear modest, dark shorts and bring a change of clothes with you.

Yes, provided the person you want to baptize you has met with one of our pastors to clarify their role and expectation in the service.

Yes! We would love to see that happen. The family member would need to go through the same process of writing their faith story and meeting with our team to ensure they understand what baptism is and what they are doing with you.

No, but we encourage all Jesus followers to follow His example of being baptized as a public declaration of the inward change of heart they have made. Learn more about Partnership here.
